I've had the privilege of working with Jo every morning on our broadcast. He is highly skilled in various graphics programs and stays in tune with the show's ever-evolving aesthetic. Jo is also incredibly organized and precise, often creating style guides and manuals to better structure the graphic elements within the show. Above all, Jo is a pleasure to work with, bringing a positive, friendly attitude each morning.

Jason Bourne Movie Promotion on Today Show

Challenges, Approach & Concept

  • Challenge: Monitors behind live interviewees can distract viewers, so graphics had to be seamlessly integrated—enhancing the segment rather than overshadowing it.
  • Approach:
    • Combined the official Jason Bourne branding with a subtle “hacker” aesthetic.
    • Customized looped motion backgrounds for multiple monitor sizes on set.
  • Solutions: Ensured seamless color calibration and loop playback for an unobtrusive yet thematic background.

Process, Tools & Techniques

  • Design & Animation: Created all monitor backgrounds, intros, and lower-third elements in Adobe After Effects; prepared multiple aspect ratios for the studio’s unusual layout.
  • On-Set Coordination: Personally tested loop playback on the morning of the interviews, making real-time adjustments to color and brightness.

Final Outputs, Impact & Reflection

  • Final Deliverables: Fully rendered motion graphics package (monitor loops, segment intros/outros, lower thirds).
  • Impact: The film grossed $415+ million worldwide, with these Today Show interviews contributing to overall buzz. NBC and Universal trusted me for future segments after seeing the polished result. Plus, Matt Damon gave me a hug and said the "Graphics were awesome."
  • Reflection: Balanced the show’s visual environment to support star interviews without drawing undue attention—reinforcing that good broadcast design often works best when it’s quietly effective.
